Online Florists
By Anthony Rohde of 1300 Flowers
In Australia many florists have built a web site and promoted it online. Some of these web sites are actual florists with shops, while others are online retailers with commercial relationships with florists for flower delivery. The major online florists are: www.1300flowers.com.au www.flowers.com.au www.easyflowers.com.au www.readyflowers.com.au www.interflora.com.au These online florists have very different flower delivery business models. Interflora, for example, has more than 1,000 florists that can receive orders from www.interflora.com.au 1300FLOWERS has less than 100 florists. The online florists take varying commission from the order. Interflora takes about 25% of the order and gives 75% to the delivering florist. Ready Flowers takes more than 50% of the order as their commission. What does this all mean to the normal consumer? A consumer can only judge an online florist by the quality of the web site presentation, and the quality of the flower photos. What they can't see is how much the delivering florist will be paid, how the flowers are made, and how the flowers are delivered. Does the online florist know the actual florist building the order? Probably not. Does the online florist know the courier driver delivering the order? Probably not. 1300FLOWERS and Easy Flowers are different. They have less than 100 florists in their network that they visit regularly so they know the florist, see the stems that are used in their arrangements, and can talk to the florist every hour of the day about customer service issues. Many issues can arise during flower delivery like change of address, change of message card, change of delivery date, etc. Some online florists simply hand the order over to the delivering florist and ask the florist to deal with the customer service issues. A good online florist owns the order, does all of the communication with the florist to get all issues resolved. Almost all online florists in Australia claim on their home page great customer service, but most don't do a great job. Read the blogs and visit the review sites to discover which online florists are good and reliable. |

We have a very reliable florist here that we patronize. I appreciate this warning though. Nice website too!
